The new Plaza del Mar was officially opened in summer 2009. This magnificently converted square, which has already attracted large numbers of people, highlights the importance of Barcelona as a coastal city and a stepping stone to Platja de San Sebastià, with its direct connection to the new Mare Nostrum promenade towards the Nova Bocana area along the beach. The large numbers of both locals and tourists who come here enjoy the plentiful cuisine on offer in the Barceloneta quarter as well as the renowned sporting facilities next to it. This is a lively and noisy spot, particularly indicated for leisure and very appropriate for cultural or sporting events or high-impact gatherings.

The underground car park adds the finishing touch to a space which is practically unique in Barcelona.
