The Museum of the History of Catalonia occupies half of the Palau de Mar, which was originally built in the late-19th century to house port warehouses. The museum illustrates Catalonia’s political, social, economic and cultural evolution from remote times until the late-21st century, as well as promoting activities related to Catalan history and embracing a wide range of themes and periods. Since 2004, the Museum of the History of Catalonia has also managed the principal monuments owned by the Autonomous Government of Catalonia.
